MARION: Donald L. "Don" Rose, age 75, of Marion, went to be with the Lord on Sunday morning, May 9, 2010, at Heartland of Marion, following a five year battle with Parkinson's Disease.
On May 10, 1934, Donald was born in Dexter, Missouri, the son of the late Olivene and Alma (Barker) Rose. When he was 13, his family moved to the Marion area for work.
A dedicated worker, Don had worked for the Erie Lackawanna Railroad. After working in construction as a self-employed contractor, he founded the Marion Asphalt Company where he served as president and retired in 1991.
A servant for the Lord, Don was an active member of the Epworth United Methodist Church, where he served on many boards and enjoyed singing in the choir. It was there that he met his wife, Jo Ann (Lawson) Duhl Rose, whom he married on August 15, 1973. Together they shared over thirty-six loving years of marriage.
For over fifteen years, Don and Jo felt called to be missionaries for the church, participating through the Nomads Mission Group with the Methodist Church. He helped to construct and fix homes and helped with hurricane, storm and flood relief wherever they were called.
Don was a past member of the Noon Kiwanis Club and the Masonic Lodge.
With a passion for music, Don lived for playing his banjo and singing with his "Blue Country Rose Band," performing together for over ten years. His legacy continues as the band plays at nursing homes and senior centers throughout North Central Ohio.
Having a unique and positive outlook, Don extended his love to everyone.
