Anthony Thomas Hura, 70, lately of Pickens, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 25, 2021, in his daughter's home with both his daughters at his side. His soul is at peace as he is reunited in heaven with the love of his life, Debi Hura, who preceded him in death in 2010.

Tony was born in Ravenna, Ohio, in 1950, and his dedication and loyalty knew no bounds. While the rest of the flower children in the Class of '68 went on to become part of the establishment and lead boring lives, Tony prided himself on being a "long-haired hippy freak" with an epic beard and a desire to never be "normal." He was a kind and peaceful soul who had a strong sense of what is right and just. He shocked us all when he told us who he had voted for in 2020 and then said it was only because the candidates he voted for in the past had never won.

Tony's true passion in life was found when he pulled up to a red light on a cold night in January, 1971, in a convertible with the top down. Debi Woljevach and friends pulled up next to him and jokingly asked how the weather was. Three weeks later, she became Debi Hura, and Tony's life revolved around hers.

Tony was the most intelligent, quick-witted, hard-working man we know and had an adventurous spirit that inspired us all to live life to the fullest. He worked for over forty years as a CNC machinist, starting on the night shift and doing whatever it took to provide for his family. When Tony and Debi got tired of the cold Ohio winters, they sold everything they owned and moved their family onto "The Seaquestor," their 37-foot sailboat, and headed for warmer seas. After living in Florida for many years, Tony and Debi ended up in Pickens, South Carolina, where they bought several acres of land on top of a mountain. The plan was to build their dream home where they would watch their grandchildren play while they sat together on the porch in their rocking chairs. Tragically, Debi passed away before this could become a reality, but this didn't stop Tony from engineering and building their dream home by hand. Tony had started exploring the US in 1968 with an ill-fated hitchhiking journey to California (made it to Kansas). After his wife's passing, he continued his journey with a trip to Alaska and a cross-country camping trek in a 20 year old Toyota Tacoma. He managed to visit every state except Hawaii before returning home to complete their dream house.

Tony will be forever remembered by his two daughters and their spouses, Brian and Angela Gilbert of Davidson, North Carolina, Eric and Melanie Brown of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; five grandchildren, Georgiana, Nolan, Tyler, Carter, and Gabriel; his brother, Thomas Hura. He was predeceased by his parents, Anthony and Edna Hura, his beloved wife Debi, and his brother, Edward Hura.

Visitation hours will be held at 9:30 am on March 13th, at St. Joan of Arc Church in Streetsboro, with Mass to follow at 10:30 am. For memorial contributions, the family has designated The Nature Conservancy to honor Tony's love for the outdoors.
