Born in Athens, Illinois, 3rd son of Hollom Pierce & Lucena Winters. Corporal in Union Army Cavalry 1861-1865. Came to NM in 1873, was a cattleman on the Lower Pecos River at Pierce Canyon which was named for him. He was one of the Seven Rivers Warriors in the Lincoln Co. War in late 1870s. Accidently shot in the hip by Bob Olinger in 1879, with the same bullet that killed John Jones. Moved into Roswell in early 1880s, became cattle business partner with Capt. Joseph C. Lea, who would become the first mayor of Roswell. In April 1882, Milo L. Pierce married Capt. Lea's sister, Ella who was the widow of James H. Calfee. She had two sons, Frank H. Calfee, and Edgar W. Calfee. Milo and Ella had a daughter, Mabel Sophie Pierce, b. May 1883 who lived only 2 months, and Milo Lucius Pierce, Jr., b. Aug 1891.
Milo L. Pierce is referenced many times in books about the Lincoln County War, but became one of Roswell's respected citizens.
