Simon was born on January 3, 1875; (*One document I have says he was born in 1879) in Williams county, Ohio to Albert Wesley Dewitt and Lucinda Jane (Town) Dewitt. His draft registration says he was born January 3, 1876. Simon registered for the military on September 12, 191(5)and it was stated that his health was not very good. He had dark blue eyes and brown hair. My Mother told me that was never sure what year he was born in. His 1st wife was-Grace Snover; at the age of 18 and Simon at the age of 25; (That document would have put him born in 1877) married on July 30th, 1902 by Perry Brown Clergyman in Fork Township, Barryton Michigan with witness Lewis Dewitt and witness Nora Dewitt and divorced on June 14, 1910 in Big Rapids, Michigan. It was said that she deserted him as stated on the divorce papers. My Mother told me that she just was unhappy as a farmer's wife. Her parents were Charles Snover and Nettie Chisswell (Snover)
His 2nd wife was-Gladys Pearl Marie Dow; He married at the age of 44 and she was 18 or 19 (depending on which document you look at) in Petoskey, Emmet county, Michigan and had two children; Gladys Lucinda and Albert Wesley Dewitt.
Simon lived with his daughter Gladys for many years and owned a farm in Barryton, Michigan that he bought from his parents and it stayed in the family until it was sold by his daughter Gladys and her husband who then bought a store in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. Simon loved his farm and worked it as long as he could untill an injury from a horse prevented him from it, he then hired Floyd Williams as a hired hand and his wife Gladys divorced him and married Floyd. His daughter took over the farm and raised 5 of her 8 children there. Simon loved going to church and spending time with his grandchildren. He passed away on July 6, 1961 at Ardis Nursing Home in Clare, Michigan after falling and breaking his hip and then got pneumonia. I have many of the deeds and tax receipts and marriage and divorce documents that belonged to Simon. *another brother not listed and I haven't found his place of burial; Guy William or William Guy Dewitt.
