Joel James Adcock, 65, of Prairie Village, KS passed away on February 28, 2021. Joel was born June 8, 1955 in Jefferson City, MO to Lois Mayfield Adcock and John Adcock. The family moved to Leawood, KS when he was 5 years old, and he attended Marsha Bagby Elementary School. Joel graduated from Shawnee Mission South High School in 1973. He then went to Lawrence to attend the University of Kansas where he received Bachelor’s degrees in Architecture, Design & Visual Communication and Environmental Design.

After graduation, Joel moved to Austin, Texas working as an Interior Designer. He then moved to Chicago in 1986 working as a Designer at ISD which he dearly loved and made many lifetime friends. Joel moved back to Austin in 1992 continuing his professional design work with various firms. He then moved back home to Kansas City in 2014 to be near family where Joel briefly continued his Design work before being diagnosed with cancer.

Joel had a passion for music, photography, art, design and architecture. He loved recounting stories of his many road trips with friends always enjoying a new adventure. Friendship was a lifetime pursuit that he treasured never forgetting or losing touch with anyone. As one of Joel’s friends said, “the spirit of love, fun and humor were never far from Joel and will live on!”

Joel is survived by his sister, his brother , his niece , four great nephews, great niece and many cousins. He also is survived by his beloved cat Richard Parker.
