William Ahlfeld was born in Letzlingen, Germany on August 2, 1825 and died at his home near West Salem, February 16, 1910, aged 84 years 6 months and 14 days.
He with his family came to America and settled in Edwards County in 1854 where he since has made his home. Soon after coming to America, during religious services being held at homes of the community, he confessed his faith in Christ and accepted him as his Saviour.
The deceased was married to Mary Genrich, August 2, 1852. By this union, 2 children were born, a daughter who preceded him in death and one son who survives him. His first companion died March 23, 1894 and he was married to Elizabeth Behrns, May 2, 1897, who also died in 1905, and he was married to Mary A. Clark, September 29, 1906.
He leaves his wife, one son and eighteen grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at the home and conducted by Elder J. E. Couch of the Christian Church, after which his remains were laid to rest in the Macedonia Cemetery.
