Agnes Nana Akosua Adusei Acheampong, 5th child of the late Ibrahim Adusei and the late Mariama Adusei, was born in Asafo, Ashanti Region of Ghana. She attended Ahmadiyya Primary and proceeded to Bekwai School of Accountancy for her secondary education where she did active sports. She was a member of their netball team and profoundly spoke of her athleticism as a young lady.
Auntie Nana Akosua, as we affectionately called her, grew up in Kumasi with her beloved aunt, the late Sewaa Fatima till she relocated to Tema in the Greater Accra Region in 1988/1989. While in Kumasi, she had her first 2 sons: Philip and Yaw and had her last, Francis when she relocated to Tema. She started off as a petty trader and rose to become a distributor and retailer of Unilever and Nestle products in Tema. She was very industrious and enjoyed venturing into new business opportunities involving import and export of goods and services.
She was a member of the St. Paul Methodist Church in Tema and played active roles in the women's fellowship and small bible study groups. Nana Akosua valued education and encouraged her children to do the same. She single-handedly raised her 3 children to achieve higher education. Her oldest son, Philip, has a masters’ degree, served in the U. S. Army and is currently working as a Corrections Officer in New London, Connecticut. Her second son, Yaw, completed a family medicine residency program and works as a hospitalist at UPMC. Her last child, Francis, holds a PhD in Biochemistry and is Consultant in Boston with Boston Consulting Group.
Miss Agnes relocated to the USA in April 2017 to live with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed her time in the USA and took the opportunity to develop friendships with people she met in church and the neighborhoods she stayed in. Cooking was her favorite pastime and she enjoyed catering for events for friends and family. She kept in constant touch with all happenings back home and was an avid follower of the local Ghanaian TV content and news.
Surrounded by her three sons, Auntie Nana Akosua transitioned into glory to be with her Maker on February 16th, 2021. She is survived by her 9 siblings, 3 children, 4 grandchildren and many friends.
Agnes’ life will be celebrated on Saturday, March 6, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of the Major H. Winfield Funeral Home, Steelton, Pa., with viewing from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. and burial in Paxtang Cemetery.
