Bea Barney
Elsinore, Utah - Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, Beatrice "Bea" Pauline Mitchell Barney, age 78, of Elsinore, died July 5, 2004 in Modesto, California.
She was born June 9, 1926 in Oakdale, California, a daughter of John and Rosalie Parysek Mitchell. Bea was born and raised in Oakdale, California, where she met her future husband, Joseph Levi Barney of Elsinore, Utah. They were married December 20, 1945 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Together they made a home and raised their family in Modesto, California.
Bea worked as an elementary school secretary, where she enjoyed her participation in the growth and education of many children.
Bea was an avid crossword puzzle solver. She spent many hours enjoying this hobby.
After retirement, eventually, Bea and Joe returned to Elsinore, Utah, Joe's childhood home, where they made their home and lived out their lives. Joe died October 11, 1998.
Together, they are survived by their children: Joseph Patrick Barney and Merry Jo McVey, both of Modesto, California; Wayne Lee and Marge Barney of Santa Maria, California; grandchildren: Jaime McVey Stephens of Modesto, California; Christopher Barney of Santa Maria, California; Melissa Barney Lintner of Santa Maria, California; a great-grandson, Carson Stephens. Bea is also survived by a brother, Miles Mitchell of Oregon, and a sister, Vera Thiel of Modesto, California.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Joe Mitchell and a sister, Georgia Anderson. Graveside services will be held Saturday, July 10, 2004 at 2:30 P.M. in the Monroe City Cemetery with Deacon Denny Davies of Christ The King Catholic Church in Cedar City, Utah officiating.
