Sherri Layne Power of Riverside, California passed away at home from Cancer on February 9, 2014 surrounded by her family. Sherri was born on July 17, 1959 in El Cajon, California. She is survived by her husband Jack (John) Power of 33 years, children Jennifer, Brittney, Kirsten, Christopher, Sean and Whitney of Riverside, California and predeceased by her daughter Lindsey. Also, her mother Vivian Gray of Temecula, father Roger (Patricia) Brousseau of Dudley, Mass and siblings; Michael Brousseau of Temecula, James (Shelley) Brousseau of Canyon Lake, and Tamara (Jim) Larkin of Redondo Beach and sister in law, Shelly Brousseau of Temecula and brother in law, Greg Zlotnick of Willimantic, Connecticut and predeceased by his wife and her sister, Kimberly Zlotnick. She is survived by 25 loving nieces and nephews.
Sherri went to elementary school through middle school in Santee California prior to moving to Southbridge, Massachusetts where she attended Mary E. Wells Jr. High and an honor role graduate from Southbridge High School, (SHS).
Her love and talent of sports earned Sherri status as a three sport letterman and culminated in her being elected to the SHS Athletic Hall of Fame in 2009 and 2012 as both a catcher of an undefeated state champion soft ball team and individually for her own accomplishments respectively.
She attended Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and graduated with a B.S. embarking on a 32 year career as a Pharmacist. Sherri most recently worked for Parkview Medical, Inland Compounding and Spencers’ Pharmacies amongst other local Pharmacies during her career.
A loving caring mother of her 6 children, Sherri was most devoted and proud of their individual accomplishments. A ferocious child advocate in Riverside Sherri spent countless hours volunteering for P.T. A.’s. She served as president at Franklin and Twain Elementary Schools, Earhart and Miller Middle Schools and King High School in Riverside California.
She served on the board at Riverside County P.T.A. Council and Unit levels in various positions where she was awarded the Distinguished Honorary Service Award in 2009. In 2013 she was also honored as a Riverside’s Hero by the City of Riverside, Human Relations Commission. In addition, Sherri was chosen as Volunteer of the Year four times throughout her years of service to the P.T.A.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be mailed to the P.T.S.A. in care of Frank Augusta’s Miller Middle School located at; 17925 Krameria Ave, Riverside, California, 92504
Visitation is from 4:00pm to 8:00pm on Wednesday, February 12th, at Arlington Mortuary on 9645 Magnolia Ave, Riverside, California.
A Mass will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, February 14th, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 3774 Jackson Street, Riverside, California.
