Ruth Elizabeth (Mowry) Mills, the daughter of Aubert L. and Maud E. Mowry was born Sept. 9, 1900 in the family's sod hous in the Gradan community, Graham County Kansas. At about the age three she moved into a newly constructed frame house in the Bow Creek community that she would call home for the rest of her life.

Ruth was preceeded in death by her parents, an infant sister and her brothers Aubert J. Mowry, and Loyd W. Mowry. She grew up in the Lucerne community and attended grade school in the Bow Creek District sod school house, and for a short period in Manhattan, Kansas. She graduated from high school in Hoxie, Kansas in 1921 and later recieved a teaching certificate from Fort Hays State Teachers College. She taught grade school in several locations in Sheridan County.

Ruth was united in marriage to Paul Newman Mills at the home on October 4, 1925. To this union were born four children, Albert, Norman, Lorraine, and Lloyd. Her life time was devoted to the service of others. She was a memeber of the Church of Christ, and a charter member of the Farm Bureau Unit, organized in 1930, serving as its first president and last surviving charter member. With the exception of the brief period in Manhattan and approximately a year and a half farming in the Deming, New Mexico area, her whole life of service was spent in the Bow Creek Community.

As Ruth passes to a better life, left here are her husband Paul of 65 years and her son Norman of the home, Albert and Nadine Mills of Hoxie, her daughter Lorraine and Edwin Coulter of rural Hoxie, and son Lloyd and Veryl Mills of Enid, Oklahoma, eight grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren. Also left here to miss her presence are Paul's sister Blanche and Ruth's two sisters-in-law Luvena Mowry and Mary Mowry, and all her friends.

Ruth and Paul leave a priceless heritage of faith, hope, and love to their family for strength and encouragement for years to come.
