Graduated from the Naval Academy in 1881 and then from the Western Reserve Medical college in 1886. He served as a surgeon for the First Ohio Calvary during the Spanish- American War. During World War I, he was sent overseas. He was head surgeon at Charity Hospital for 41 years until his death. In his will, Dr. Bunts left money in a trust to purchase artificial limbs for patients who could not afford them.
