Rose Marie Leonard, 83, of New Holland passed away on Friday, March 12, 2021 at 9:40 a.m. at her home.
Rose M. Leonard was born on June 21, 1937, in rural Piopolis, IL, the daughter of Louis and Mary Helene Birkner. She was united in marriage to Charles H. Leonard on January 13, 1955, in Piopolis. He preceded her in death on June 18, 2015.
Rose is survived by one son: Charles E. (Chuck) Leonard; one daughter: Diane (J. Robert) Rankin; five grandchildren: Heidi (Robert) Mueller, Brandon (Jessie) Leonard, Jennifer (Greg) White, Robbie Leonard, and James Robert “Bobby” Rankin; three great-grandchildren: Bryan Leonard, Dean Jenvey, and Greyson Leonard; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her sisters Elizabeth (Robert) Schuster, Alberta “Bertie” (James) Humes, and Genevieve “Jennie” (Larry) Kerns.
She was preceded in death by siblings Phillip Birkner, Helena “Lena” Wilhelm, Christine Birkner, Joseph Birkner, Conrad Birkner, Frederick Birkner, Andrew Birkner, and Herman Birkner.
Rose was highly dedicated to her family, spending most of her life as a caregiver for first her children and later her grandchildren. Her home was always open to family and friends, and she was always ready to provide anything they may need. Even after her children and grandchildren were grown, family night was a highlight of her week, and all members of the family in the area were welcome to attend. No one left Rose’s house without a hug, and you always left feeling loved and cared for.
Burial will be at a later date in Richmond Grove Cemetery in New Holland.
