Son of Bill and Julia Ellen Spencer Gillan.
Married to Sharon Bowen Gillan. She died on March 10, 2021.
Survivors include children Kristin (Don) Barnes, Patrick and Matthew Gillan, and Doug and Jodie Merrill (Mary Helen Atkins); grandchildren J.R. (Lyndsay) and Miriah Merrill, Houston (Emily), Hannah and Hunter Phillips, Jake Barnes, Emily (Josh) Hollums and Courtney Barnes; great-grandchildren Gryson, Addalynn and Ryker Louks and Brooks Hollum.

Graduate of Thorntown High School and Purdue University.

He was a contractor and farmed, and worked part-time job at Country Gardens with best friends Gene and Peggy Poe after retiring.

Active member of Thorntown Christian Church, Thorntown American Legion and Thorntown Kiwanis.
He volunteered his time at Thorntown Heritage Museum, Thorntown Public Library and Sugar Creek Art Center by serving on the board of directors.

He enjoyed all things Purdue, supporting Western Boone schools and sports teams, doing various woodworking projects and collecting stamps.

Service 5pm Wednesday, March 17 at Thorntown Christian Church with Rev. Glenn Jewell officiating.
Visitation 3pm until time of service.
Burial in Maple Lawn Cemetery in Thorntown with Military Rites.
