Ernest (Ernie) Walter Kott of Fredericksburg passed away on Thursday, Aug. 30, 2018, at Celeste Memory Care, at the age of 90 years.

Ernest was born Nov. 2, 1927 in Gillespie County to Adolph and Bertha Real Kott. He was baptized and confirmed into the Christian faith at Holy Ghost Lutheran Church.

Ernest is survived by his wife, Ruth Anderegg Kott of Fredericksburg; one son and spouse, Brad and Sheryl Kott of Fredericksburg; two grandchildren, Griffin Kott and spouse, Morgan Kott, of Fredericksburg, and Blair Kott of Austin; two nephews, Nathan Kott and Trevor Kott, and a sister-in-law, Virginia Mohr.

Along with his parents, Ernest was preceded in death by a son, Burt; a grandson, Quinn, and his brother, Robert "Bobby" Kott.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2018 in the chapel of Schaetter Funeral Home with the Rev. Monte Marshall officiating.

Private family disposition of his cremations will take place at a later date.

Ernie was a lifelong resident of Gillespie County. He attended the Morris Ranch School and finished his last year at Fredericksburg High School. He married Ruth Anderegg on July 26, 1953. This past July, they celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.

Ernie was a rural mail carrier for 40 years. His first love though was ranching. He served three terms on the FISD School Board and 29 years on the Gillespie County Water Control and Improvement Board. He served from 1999-2005 on the Greenwood Cemetery Board. In addition, Ernie volunteered his time with the Gillespie County Livestock Show as a spotter at the livestock sales, and served as a Little League baseball coach.

The family would like to thank the healthcare providers at Hill Country Memorial Hospice and Celeste Memory Care for the love they showed Dad while under their care. Also, thank you to the many friends that touched Ernie's life and to the family and friends that have reached out to offer comfort to our family.

Although Alzheimers disease affected Ernie's mind, it never affected his spirit. May peace be with him as he receives his new body in Christ.

The family requests that any donations be made to the Quinn Kott Scholarship Fund, through St. Mary's School; the Quinn Daniel Kott Endowment Fund at Hill Country Memorial Hospital, Fredericksburg United Methodist Church, or to the charity of their choice.

Arrangements were under the direction of Schaetter Funeral Home.
