Ralph Johnson Oltman, 85, who resided on a farm near Benson, died at 1:15 o'clock Friday afternoon, Aug. 26, at St Francis hospital in Peoria. He had been failing for the last three weeks. Funeral services were held at 2:00 o'clock Monday afternoon, Aug. 29, from St Paul's Lutheran church in Benson, with the Rev. Clarence J. Gess, pastor, officiating. Burial was in Clayton cemetery, Benson, the pallbearers being Albert Gerdes, Ed Johnson, Walter Barth, Tjebbe Johnson, Henry Harms and Reinke deFreese. Funeral services were in charge of the WIlcox-Folkers Memorial Home. Ralph J. Oltman was born in Clayton township on Nov. 19, 1874, a son of John and Gretje Gronewalt Oltman. He was educated in the rural schools near Benson. He spent his lifetime engaged in farming in Clayton township. He was united in marriage with Sheba Livingston at Minonk, on Jan. 4, 1906. She survives with three sons, William and Clifford Oltman of Benson, and Roland Oltman of Minonk. There are nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters. Mr Oltman was a charter member of St Paul's Lutheran church, at Benson. He served as a school director in his area for many years. In January, 1956, he and Mrs Oltman celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.
