Mr. Paul E. Alexander, age 72, of Lewes, DE, formerly of New Castle, DE, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on Friday, November 9, 2007, at his home after a courageous 18-month battle with cancer.

A native Delawarean, Mr. Alexander was born in Wilmington on June 30, 1935, son of the late Eber H. Alexander and Helen Jones Alexander. He proudly served his country as a paratrooper in the US Army 82nd Airborne and later became a state trooper with the Delaware State Police, retiring in 1983 with 20 years of service. After leaving the police force, Mr. Alexander accepted a position as vice-president of security with the former MBNA. He retired from banking in 2001 after 15 years. Active in the Masonic order, Mr. Alexander was a member of St. John's Lodge #2, AF & AM, in New Castle and the Nur Temple Shrine.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and will be sadly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Carolyn A. Bowers Alexander; son, Donald E. Johnson of New Castle, DE; daughter, Lisa Marie Manners and husband, David, of Elsmere, DE; 4 grandchildren, Brandi Lynn Johnson, whom he and his wife raised, Eric, Katrina and Nazareth; and 3 great grandchildren, Anthony, Mikeya and Jayla. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Carolyn.

The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the staff of Delaware Hospice, especially nurse Maggie, for their many kindnesses to Mr. Alexander during his illness.
