ROY D. AKINS, 87, DIES SEPT. 11 AT MUNSTER FOLLOWING LONG ILLNESS

Roy D. Akins, 87, of North Vernon, died at Munster Med-Inn, Munster, on September 11, following a long illness.

Funeral services were at 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 16, at Diekhoff, Vance, and Fisher Funeral Home. Burial was at Hayden Cemetery.

Mr. Akins was retired from General American Transportation Corporation, East Chicago, and a retired farmer in Jennings County. He was an honorary member of the Jennings County Genealogy Society. The Society honored him earlier this year for his efforts in preserving and copying Jennings County records and lists of legal descriptions and completing a map of locations of all Jennings County cemeteries.

He is survived by one son, Herbert Estel Akins of Englewood, Colorado; one daughter, Carolyn Owen of Sauk Village, Illinois; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a cousin, Lillian Cheever of Boyton Beach, Florida; two half-brothers, Herman Akins of Seymour and Clayton Akins of Paris Crossing, and a half-sister, Agnes Bishop of Riverview, Florida.
