The daughter of Stewart Sedgewick Battles and Dorothy Eleanore Hess Battles, Joan was an allied member of John and Betty More's Alexander line. She was raised at Galesburg, Illinois where her father was president of Midwest Manufacturing. Joan graduated from Our Lady of Angels at Clinton, Iowa and attended Northwestern University and Knox College. She was a flight attendant based at Chicago, Illinois with American Airlines when she met her husband. Joan married to Robert Sinclair Wright on 29 September 1951 at Galesburg. Her husband was an executive with Anchor Hocking and they made their home first at Chicago. About 1955, they relocated to Kansas City, Missouri and, about 1958, relocated permanently to Lancaster, Ohio. Joan was a member of Twig One, Parents' League, and Fairfield Heritage Association. She taught Catholic Catechism and served on the board of the Young Mens Christian Association. Joan volunteered at Fairfield County District Library, Decorative Arts Center, and The Georgian. She and her husband were proprietors of Harmony House from 1980 to 1990 and she worked at Ohio Historical Center. Joan was a seamstress, enjoyed cooking and decorating. She loved to travel and visited many places in this country and abroad. Joan and Robert were the parents of three children, a son still living, Elizabeth Ann Wright, and another daughter still living.
