Born in Kershaw County, SC, she was a daughter of the late Walker Gainey and Sadie Cassidy Gainey; she was the widow of Joe Thomas Autrey having been married for 60 years. She was a member of Wayside Baptist Tabernacle; she first worked for Southern Bell which changed to Bell South and then she retired from AT & T. After her retirement from AT & T, she went to work and later retired from SCDHEC. Doing for others was her love and passion, she enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family; she also enjoyed reading.
Survivors include her sons Danny (Betty) Autrey, Russell "Rusty" (Michelle) Autrey and a daughter-in-law Angela Autrey all of Pelion, SC; her grandchildren Catrina Autrey and her fiancé Charles Dheel, Brian (Lindsey) Autrey, Matthew Autrey and Benjamin Autrey, five great grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; sisters Lila Sheppard, Evelyn Hammond, Pat (Harvey) Carnes and Jean (Larry) Farmer; brothers Walker Gainey, Jr. and Benny Gainey; brother-in-law Randy Humphries and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her son Thomas Elliott "Tommy" Autrey; sisters Wanda Humphries and Ola Eason and a brother-in-law Ben Eason.
