Virginia Wharton

Virginia Wharton, 88, of Vienna, passed away Nov. 8, 2006, at Marietta Memorial Hospital.

She was born June 14, 1918, in Hastings, W.Va., the daughter of the late Andy C. and Cora B. Calvert Anderson.

She was retired from Neale School as a cook and was a member of Wayside United Methodist Church for more than 60 years, where she was active with the Mary Martha Fellowship.

Virginia was the last surviving member of her family. She is survived by one daughter, Brenda Lewis and her husband, Robert C., of Parkersburg; one grandson, Robert Tallman of Huttonsville; one granddaughter who was her caregiver, Angela Joy Bean of Vienna; one step granddaughter, Melody Lewis; two step grandsons, Joe and Tim Lewis; one great-granddaughter, Brittany; and five step great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William E. Wharton; five brothers; and two sisters.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 3005 Grand Central Ave., Vienna, with the Rev. Dr. Michael Richards and the Rev. Sandy Runion officiating. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
