Al 'Bud' Welle
MOTLEY - Al "Bud" Welle, age 71, of Motley, passed away suddenly early Wednesday morning, Aug. 8, 2007. A memorial Mass will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, 2007, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Motley with Father Peter Kirchner officiating. A time for sharing with the family will be at the luncheon immediately following Mass.

Alphonse Paul Welle was born March 25, 1936, in St. Cloud, Minn., the son of Alphonse Joseph and Mary Antonette (Doetkott) Welle. As a young boy his family moved to Motley where he grew up and graduated from high school. He went on to college at St. John's in Collegeville for his preengineering and continued his education at the University of Minnesota. He worked for the state of Minnesota and the Department of Transportation, first in St. Paul and then in Brainerd. On March 25, 1936, he was united in marriage to Elayne Thorn in Minneapolis. To this union four children were born. Bud and Elayne were able to share more than 49 years of marriage together. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Motley and at various times served on the Motley Fire Department, Motley Public Cemetery Board and St. Michael's Church Board. They enjoyed wintering in Arizona and Bud developed a soft spot in his heart for Holy Trinity Monastery in St. David, Ariz., and especially for its library where he volunteered a good deal of his time in the winter months.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alphonse and Mary. Bud is mourned in passing by his loving wife, Elayne; children, Elena (Bob) Thiede, of Motley, Michael (Pam) Welle, of Martinsville, Ind., Pamela (Barry) Hultquist, of Belview, Minn., and Michelle (Lou) Morales, of Euless, Texas; six grandchildren, Chris, Ryan, Nicholas and Nathan Thiede, also Drew and April Hultquist; and one sister, Corrine Welle.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Brenny Funeral Chapel of Staples.
