Maria Eugenia Stegmann was the youngest daughter of John Frederick Stegmann and Marie Urusle Choisy. According to her obituary Maria was born in June 1800.
Also according to her obituary, she married Benjamin Barnard in 1818 in Richmond Hill, York County. Benjamin had been hired as the first formal schoolteacher in Richmond Hill in 1816. Maria and Benjamin had six children. He died in 1831.
Maria's second husband was William Pollock and they married about 1832. Maria and William had four children.
She died on 5 November 1888 at her home at 183 McCaul Street in Toronto. Her death notice in The Liberal (Richmond Hill) on 8 November 1888, p. 5, col. 3 mentioned that Maria had continued to live in Richmond Hill until a few years before her death. Obituaries were published in The Liberal on 8 November 1888, p. 5, col. 2 and in The York Herald (Richmond Hill) on 22 November 1888, p. 2, col. 3.
