Mrs Holden was a philanthropist and many who were the recipients of her kindly deeds sincerely bemoan her loss, as she was indeed their friend.
Marie Blilie Holden was born in Decorah, Iowa, the daughter of Olena and Christian Blilie. Her parents, two younger sisters, a widowed sister and a married brother reside at Naper, Nebraska; a sister, Mrs Fredricksen at Tacoma, Washington; another sister, Mrs J. C. Farlee of Brocksburg, Nebraska.
Mrs Holden for a number of years prior to her marriage resided in St. Paul, Minn. She was a member of the Easter star, of the I.O.F., Bethesda Rebecca Lodge, No. 11, of the Clinton-avenue Methodist Episcopal Church, and also of the King's Daughters, all of that city.
She was united in marriage to John F. Holden in St. Paul on December 16, 1903. They left immediately after the wedding for Congress, Arizona, where they resided until last November, when they came to Los Angeles and bought a home at No. 1829 Reid street, where they have since resided. Only a few days before her death she passed her thirty-third birthday.
Thursday last after impressive services in the chapel of Fresee Brothers, her remains were laid to rest in Rosedale Cemetery. Many acquaintances and friends paid their last tribute of respect and love to the memory of the deceased by being present at the funeral, and fitting floral pieces, beautiful in design, were sent by many others, some of whom could not attend the services.
A son born on the 13th of last month survives the untimely death of his mother, and with the bereaved father misses the presence of the devoted mother and good wife.
