Juan was born in Mexico to Juan Lopez and Ampelia Pardo. He was married to the Mexican American Banda singer, Jenni Rivera from 1997 to 2003 and they had two children, Jenika Lopez and Johnny Angel Lopez. They met in 1995 at a bar in Los Angeles where Jenni was performing to make extra money. In 2007, Juan was convicted of selling drugs and died two years later of pneumonia while serving his prison sentence. He was survived by his children, Thalia Lopez, Christopher Lopez, Joey Lopez, Jenika Lopez, Johnny Lopez, Janney "Chiquis" Marin, Jackie Rivera, Michael Rivera, and Jose Manuel Lopez; parents, Juan and Ampelia Lopez; sisters, Erika, Maria, and Maricela; and brother David Lopez.
