4640 Private C E Golding, 2nd Dragoon Guards (Queen's Bays). His Regiment deployed to South Africa for the Second Anglo Boer War, sailing on the Orotava on 18 Nov 1901, and arrived in Dec 1901. They were part of a brigade formed under Colonel the Honourable R T Lawley, along with the 7th Hussars, to operate in the Winburg district. The brigade was for some time in the north of the Orange River Colony. They took part in General Elliot's great drive resulting in the capture of over 800 prisoners, 25,000 cattle, 2000 horses, 200 waggons, and 50,000 rounds of ammunition. In March 1902 the brigade was moved to Springs in the Transvaal, and on 1 Apr 1902 had severe fighting. Pte Golding died of enteric fever (typhoid) at No 15 Stationary Hospital, Heidelberg, Transvaal aged 23 years shortly after tye war ended.
