Donald's family moved to Woodville in 1952. After he graduated from high school in 1968, he attended University of Idaho for 3 years before joining the Navy. He joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints while he was at college. His ambition was to go to medical school and participate in the medical profession. Trained as a combat medic for the Marines, he served in the Navy for 16 years, a good portion of that being sea duty in the Philippines, South Africa, and the Middle East. After he left the Navy, he attended Eastern Idaho Technical College then worked at INEL for several years. After his heart attack, he worked at several jobs, including Butler Engineering as a rodman on the survey crew until retirement. He lived in Woodville with his parents during their declining years. Survivors included siblings Robert Butler, Kathleen Dees, Beverly Hyndman and Pamela Stone. Services held April 8th at Nalder Funeral Home
