Mattie was a devoted lifelong member of Southside United Methodist Church and the Southside community. She was known for her spunk, eclectic style and signature laugh. Mattie was small in stature but big in love, creativity and fun. As a grandmother she was pure magic, always up for an adventure in the woods, a swim in the creek or an elaborate Halloween haunted house with her granddaughters and their cousins and friends. She was independent, strong and sharp until her last day, a fine example of a life well lived.
Mattie was born in Nashville, TN, to Elder and Maude Appleton, who preceded her in death. She is survived by her son Mike Wyatt, grandchildren, Linea (Frank) Adcock and Elizabeth (Charlie) Balthrop, four great- grandchildren, Wyatt, Brooks, Margot and Frank V, and her brother Garland Appleton.
In addition to her parents, Mattie is preceded in death by her husband Bobby Wyatt, brothers James Appleton and Milton Page, sister Peggy Jean Appleton, and daughter-in-law Linda Wyatt.
Pallbearers will be Gene Morgan, Ray Baggett, Dennis Appleton, Robert Workman, Charlie Balthrop, Frank Adcock and honorary, Peggy Appleton, Helen Mayfield, Carolyn Ganaway, Joan Baggett and Doris Nave.
In lieu of flowers please donate to Southside Cemetery at 4780 Chapel Hill Rd, Southside, TN 37171 c/o Ben Workman.
