Christopher "Chris" Scott Pickett left us and went to be with his heavenly Father on April 4, 2021 in his home on 920 Pennsylvania Avenue, Baltimore, MD at the age of 45 years and 22 days of an apparent Heart Attack.

Even though Chris' " official " date of passing was the day his Mom and I found him in his apartment on April 7th ..... The Medical Examiner that was there determined that he did not die on the 7th but 3 days earlier.

He was born the son of Russell Stout Pickett and Diane Sue Collison Pickett on March 13, 1976 in Dover, DE. He attended all his schooling in Dover, Delaware and was a 1994 graduate of Dover High School.

Soon after high school he joined the 153rd Military Police Company of the Delaware National Guard where he proudly served for 12 years. He was awarded numerous decorations and citations. His unit was activated into fulltime military service during "Operation Spring and Enduring Freedom" serving with his unit in Saudi Arabia from 2002 thru 2003.

He worked at many jobs during his life and his last position was working with an online internet company from his home.

Chris was loved and respected by almost everyone he met during his life. So many of those that came into his life always knew that he was a trusted friend and someone who they could always go to for advice, comfort, or to share a good laugh with.

One of the things that many didn't know about Chris is that, like his Dad, he loved to " Cook " and invent meals ..... and he was a pretty darn good cook !

He will be sorely missed, not only by his family, but also by so many of his friends …..

Of all the people who have walked this earth..... my son Chris was more like me then anyone else was or will be ..... except for two things ..... drinking and the fact that he was a fan of the Baltimore " Boo Birds " Orioles instead of the Yankees !

He was preceded in passing away by his Pop-Pop John Earnest Pickett, Jr., his Pop-Pop Albert Roland Collison and his Mom-Mom Dorotha Lee Stubbs Collison.

He is survived by his mother and step-dad Diane Sue ( Collison ) and Lee Sullenberger, his dad and step-mother Russell S. and Karen ( Hodge ) Pickett, his brother and sister-in-law Ryan M. and Tara ( Buemi ) Pickett, his sisters Kayla G. Pickett and Kara V. Pickett, his Grandmother Emma Virginia Stout Pickett, his uncle and aunt John E., III and Tammy ( Rogers ) Pickett, his aunt Karen ( Collison ) Morris, his step-brother and step-sisters Kyle Hanshaw, Kelli M. ( Hanshaw ) Truax, and Laura Short and Karen Pettyjohn. He is also survived by 14 nieces and nephews and many cousins.

A visitation, time of remembrance, and memorial service was held for Chris on Friday, April 16, 2021 at the Faries Funeral Home, Smyrna, DE.

Chris was interred in the Old Drawyer's Cemetery, Odessa, Delaware where he requested to be interred next to his Pop-Pop Pickett.

The VFW provided a Military Funeral with a three volley gun salute, the folding of his flag, the placing of 3 shell casings in the folded flag, and presentation of the flag to his mom.

" Memories from his sister Kara: "

As I've sat around trying to formulate reasons, thoughts, or the whys I have pondered right into an abyss of absent thoughts. My first thoughts weren't what if's or why's. I just remembered " Chris " for who he showed me, which clearly now is what was shown to many.

Being 17 years younger than" Chris " obviously could leave many questions as I'm sure he had a life before, during his military lifestyle, and after. When I would describe my older brother to others I would say he played the piano at family holidays, he was great with kids, and he liked being Santa Claus. Which speaks levels because kid's have an intuition of good people.

Yet many say he was " troubled " or wondered if things could have turned out " differently " He was helpful to others even when he his self needed help. So yes, many may say he boxed up his feelings but I remember my brother being across seas, never missing a birthday, sending me handmade nesting boxes with a sheesham finish to store my tiny treasures. A brother who even when miles near or apart never missed noting my accomplishment, life journeys, or birthdays. I won't say I missed out on an opportunity of getting to know the non " troubled " Chris " but the obvious case for missed opportunities in the future. I think " Chris " touched more people then he realized. He always posted about how bratty but awesome my twin and I are, and how awesome and loved we are. Although he would always claim me to be the weird one, ha.

There shouldn't have to be a why or a reason, just Simply a thought on what he has meant to each individual within their own journeys with him. Nothing goes as planned, and we all know that, but " Chris " always planned on being the person who could be there for someone, the person who defended his country, and developed love within so many peoples lives.

Sometimes it's easier to look at how his troubles allowed him to be the caring individual he was. To be the one who someone could talk to or joke with. With or without confusion the biggest regret we could live with within the memory of him is believing the boxed up demons were what took him away when he offered up many little positive things that changed everyone's lives in a light he now resides in.
