FRANCIS BURKE IS FOUND DEAD TODAY Francis Burke, 411 North A street, local agent for the Prudential Insurance Company for many years, was found dead at his home this morning. Funeral arrangements are pending at Turnbull Funeral Home.
BURKE SERVICES TO BE SATURDAY: The Review Atlas, Monmouth, IL, Thursday, August 10, 1962. Francis Earl Burke, 411 North A street, died at his home Wednesday. He had
suffered a heart condition two years ago. Born at Sterling, October 29, 1904, he was the son of Frank J. and Frances (Charles) Burke. His early life was spent in Kewanee and Sterling, and he came to Monmouth when a young man, where he has resided the past 38 years and at the above address for 24 years.
Mr. Burke had been associated with the Monmouth Dairy and had been the local agent for the Prudential Insurance Company for 27 years, having lived for two years in Galesburg while working for the company. He married Gladys Bowers, May 24, 1930, at Peoria, her death having occurred in 1943. One son, Keith E. Burke, of Bayonne, N.J., a daughter, Mrs. Dean (Nancy) St. Ledger, of Monmouth; Mrs. Frances E. Burke, his mother of Monmouth; two bothers, Paul of Rock Island and John of East Moline, and a grandson, David St. Ledger, of Monmouth, are surviving. His father and a granddaughter are deceased. The Rosary will be recited at the Turnbull Chapel at 8 o'clock this evening (Friday) and Funeral Mass will be conducted at the Immaculate Concept church, Saturday at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery. (Note: The Reverend Robert Becker officiated at the church and The Reverend H. F. Pendergast officiated at the cemetery. NOTE: The death of Francis Burke occurred on the evening of August 8th, following a dinner at the home of daughter Nancy. The following morning the neighbors, Tom and Helen Holland, discovered his body and called Rev. Pendergast who came to home for the final blessing. Father Pendergast also notified daughter Nancy upon her arrival; she did not enter the home. Pallbearers: James Henry, Edward Kelly, David Payne, Roy Gavin, Edward J. Shunick, Kermit Shook.
