Smith, Bruce, 87, died Sept. 30. Services 10 a.m. Monday, Metropolitan Baptist Church (Memorial Park, Oklahoma City).

Bruce was born January 19, 1928, in Kiefer, OK to Vignon Seay Smith and Pierce Heskew Smith. He passed away on September 30, 2015, in Oklahoma City. He graduated from Pawhuska High School in 1946 and served in the Navy from 1946 to 1948. He studied electrical engineering at John Brown University in Siloam Springs, AR. He married Marjorie Ann Thornton on September 15, 1950. She survives. They moved to Oklahoma City, and he worked for over thirty years for OG&E. Two children, Kathryn Wilson (Paul), of Champaign, IL; and Kevin Smith (Tracy), of Ballwin, MO; also survive. He was a volunteer fire fighter and chaplain for The Village Fire Department for 14 years. Since the mid-1950s, Bruce was active in the Metropolitan Baptist Church in Oklahoma City. Services were held there on October 5, 2015, officiated by Dr. Michael Lawson, of Dallas Theological Seminary. Bruce was an avid camper and loved to canoe. He was active in Boy Scouts and received their highest honor, the Silver Beaver. He and his wife taught first aide with the Red Cross and were active in the Civil Defense. He was a skilled wood turner. He volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and built furniture for an orphanage on a mission trip to Lima, Peru. Above all, Bruce put God first in his life. He lived in humble service to God and others, and he will be greatly missed. Memorials may be made in Bruce's name to the American Red Cross, American Heart Association , or to the Metropolitan Baptist Church Building Fund.
