Alonzo George Hooper, 85, a native of Indianapolis and a resident of Santa Cruz for about 15 years, died yesterday in a local hospital. He had been in failing health for the last four or five years.

When a young boy, he moved with his parents to Wyaconda, Mo., where his mother and father built the first house. He learned the watchmaker's trade and operated a watch repair shop in Wyaconda for nearly 50 years.

An ordained deacon in the Christian church, he was active in church affairs in Wyaconda before moving to California and residing in Gardena about 20 years ago.

He lived with a daughter, the late Bertha Holbrook, and a grandson, Al Holbrook in Santa Cruz.

He also is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Belle Sharpe of Santa Cruz and Mrs. Cora Clifford of Keokuk, la.; two brothers, William Hooper of Keokuk and Charles Hooper of Wvaconda: two nephews, Ed and Weston Sharpe ot Santa Cruz and other nieces and nephews in the east.

Funeral services will be conducted tomorrow at 8:30 p.m. in White's chapel with Rev. J. C. Coyar officiating. Interment will follow in the IOOF cemetery.
