Opal Elizabeth Looten, 96, of Henley passed away peacefully Wednesday, October 28, 2015 at her home, surrounded by family.

She was born on July 1, 1919 in Mountain View MO, daughter of Amos E. and Bertie V. (Sells) Mendenhall, who preceded her in death.

She was united in marriage on February 20, 1957 in Versailles MO to Edward John Looten, who preceded her in death on February 12, 1996.

She attended Mountain View High School in Mountain View MO. She worked for over 20 years at Charles E. Still Hospital, now Capital Region Medical Center, in the Housekeeping Department. She also worked at Cole County R-5 (Eugene) School as a cook. During World War II, she made artillery shells in Kansas City MO. Opal was a member of Hickory Hill Baptist Church. She was affiliated with the OATS Bus Social Group in Henley and enjoyed traveling with them.

She liked to fish, embroider, quilt, and garden. Most of all, she loved her family and treasured the time she spent with them, especially attending her grandchildrens' sporting events. She was their #1 fan.

She is survived by two sons: Franklin (JoAnn) Looten of Henley MO and Donald (Shirley) Looten of Henley MO; ten grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren and one very special great-great grandchild: Aubrielle Garfias.

She was preceded in death by son Wayne Looten; great grandchild Jasmine Looten; three brothers: Irva Mendenhall, Arthur Mendenhall and Robert Mendenhall and three sisters: Ola Murray, Anna Mendenhall and Dorothy Rensch.

Family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. on Monday, November 2, 2015 at Millard-Rekus Family Funeral Chapel. An additional visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 3, 2015 at Hickory Hill Baptist Church in Henley. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 3, 2015 at Hickory Hill Baptist Church with Dr. Steven Hogard officiating. Interment will follow at Hickory Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to Hickory Hill Baptist Church.
