WESTFIELD — Fred Allen Wood, age 85, of Westfield, passed away Sunday, October 28, 2007, at Riverview Hospital, Noblesville. He was born March 5, 1922, to Roy Burgess and Gladys Emily (Tomlinson) Wood in Noblesville, Indiana.
He married Mildred Louise Hornaday Beery on July 22, 1983, in Sechrist, Indiana.
She survives.
Fred was a farmer and a lifelong member of Hinkle Creek Friends Church. A gifted musician, he excelled at both the saxophone and the keyboard, participating in both jazz band and orchestra. For many years his bus driving skills were utilized and appreciated by Westfield school organizations and athletic teams. He also served in custodial and maintenance work for Westfield-Washington Schools. He and his wife Mildred delivered Meals on Wheels for over 15 years. Family and friends will miss his gracious, caring heart and quiet, loving smile.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Joyce Anthon; one brother, Ralph Wood; and one stepson, Jack Beery Sr.
Fred is survived by his wife, Mildred Wood, Westfield; daughter, Shirley (Roscoe) Gray, Westfield; son, Garry Wood, Plainfield; stepdaughter, Mary Lou Harris, Bloomington; stepdaughter-in-law, Nancy Beery, Westfield; stepson, Jim (Merry) Beery, Oaktown; two granddaughters, Amy Garrison, Fishers, and Amber Wood, Indianapolis; nine step-grandchildren, Jack (Erin) Beery Jr., Brad (Jennifer) Beery, Matt (Kristen) McCarrick, Stacy Beery, Marsha (Scott) Jones, Meredith (Ted) Miller, Dan Beery, Eric Brand, and Kyle Brand; two great-grandsons, Devin Thomas and Ian Dotlich; and nine step-great-grandchildren, Britton and Bryce Beery, Ryan and Lauren Beery, Ellie McCarrick, Jacob and Maura Jones, Wyatt Oxley and Mia Miller.
Family and friends will gather Tuesday, October 30, 2007, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at. Hinkle Creek Friends Church, 21617 Hinkle Road, Noblesville. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 31, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment will follow in Hinkle Cemetery.
