Daphine was named Valedictorian at Austin High School, then proceeded to the U of M. There she met handsome WWII fighter pilot, Carroll, who sat behind her in Spanish Class. They quickly became the love of each other's lives, married in 1947 and raised three children together: Stephanie, Becky & Richard.
Daphine was the ultimate mother. She poured herself into her children's lives, volunteering in every one of their activities, offering her unending support and encouragement as she quietly taught them to pursue what they loved.
She was very actively involved at Central Lutheran Church where many close, forever friendships were established. The life Daphine and Carroll created for their family was magical. The sound of music always filled the house, and that passion was passed on to her children, as was her love of books. There were long summer vacations traveling the country, camping, hiking, touring and bonding. Then came cherished grandchildren. Daphine championed their every endeavor, sweetly shared her insights and advice and loved each one beyond measure. She was so proud of them all.
To help support the family and fund the countless joy-filled trips she and Carroll took abroad, Daphine worked for years at Fairview Southdale Hospital, another place where she developed long-lasting friendships.
She was a Minnesota sports fanatic who rarely missed a Gopher, Vikings, or Twins game.
So many adjectives describe Daphine: intelligent, witty, curious, adventurous, feisty, caring, loving, and beautiful. Daphine was all of those to the very end. She had a gentle, kind heart and a deep abiding love for her extended family and her dear Lord. She touched and inspired everyone that she knew. She will be dearly missed.
Daphine is survived by her 3 children, Stephanie (Judd), Becky (Bruce), Rich (Kathy), 9 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren, as well as her sister, Shirley Capon.
A private service will be held today at 2:00 PM at Central Lutheran Church.
