OBITUARY: Stephen C. "Steve" Carpenter, May 11, 1934 ~ April 18, 2021 - reprinted from the Stark Family Life Celebration Chapel website

Stephen C. "Steve" Carpenter, age 86 of Hastings, died peacefully on Sunday, April 18, 2021, at Regina Senior Living in Hastings.

Stephen Christian, the son of Stephen and Vida (Holst) Carpenter, was born on May 11, 1934, in Plainview, Minnesota. His family later moved to St. Paul Park where he was raised and attended Park High School. Steve then worked on the Ore Boats throughout the Great Lakes. On September 4, 1954, he was united in marriage to his sweetheart since seventh grade, Mary Lou Hennen. They were blessed with five children "fab 5", sixty-six years of marriage, and many wonderful memories over the years. After their marriage, Steve worked for Armour Co. until their closing, then for Iowa Pork for a brief time. He later worked for his daughter and son-in-law at their Blaine Dairy Queen, and finally at St. Anthony School District where he retired as a Custodian.

From Minnesota to Texas, there wasn't many ballrooms that Steve and Mary Lou didn't dance together in. Following his retirement, they enjoyed wintering in Mission, Texas for many years. Steve was a very meticulous person and handy man who always made sure his garage was immaculate. He was the best story teller and "Uncle Harry" always made sure to have a good joke and shot of Jezynowka to share.

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Inez Theis and James Carpenter; sister-in-law. Jane Hennen; and by his nephews, Jon Niemann and Richard Hennen.

Steve is survived by his wife, Mary Lou; children, Judy (Patrick) McDowell, Jane (Mark) Gerry, Stephanie (Patrick) Polillo, Daniel (Jacquelyn) Carpenter, and Scott (Catherine) Carpenter; grandchildren, Angela (Steve) Zeien, Paul (Lisa) McDowell, Anna (Jay) Bauer, Jenna Gerry, Andrew (Kylie) Polillo, Anthony (Selina) Polillo, Gracey Jo Carpenter, Alex (Emily) Carpenter, Charlie (Beatriz) Carpenter, and Madison Carpenter; great grandchildren, Victoria, Trevor, and Vincent Zeien, Malerie, River, and Gabi McDowell, Axton and Lenox Bauer, and Charlotte Drew Polillo; siblings, Katherine Erickson, Mary Katz, Aileen Niemann, Carol (Edward) Silvestri, Thomas Carpenter, and Geri (Gene) Slattum; his in-laws, Marlyn (Edna) Hennen, Don (Jude) Hennen, Janice Lindala, and Gary (Phyllis) Hennen; and by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 2:30 p.m. Saturday, April 24, 2021, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Hastings, with Father David Hennen officiating. Interment will follow at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Cemetery in St. Paul Park.

Family and friends are cordially invited to a visitation at church from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. at church on Saturday afternoon. A Celebration of Steve's Life will begin at 5:30 p.m. Saturday evening at The Public House (Former Hastings Country Club) in Hastings.
