Roger Hunts Along, "Awaxaawi macee'isish" (Mountain King), 71, Rock Point, Arizona, formerly of New Town, ND, died Thursday, April 1, 2021 at a Gilbert, AZ medical center.
Roger Murray Hunts Along, "Awaxawi macee'isish" (Mountain King), 71, of Rock Point, Arizona, formerly of New Town, ND, was called home on April 1, 2021. Roger was born on July 26, 1949 in Elbowoods, ND the son of John and Jennie (Smith) Hunts Along. Roger was a member of the Waterbuster Clan and a child of the Knife Clan. He was also a member of the Antelope Society. He attended school at Flandreau, SD. He enjoyed working on his family farm. Roger proudly served as a Vietnam Army Veteran in the 101st Airborne and Artillery.
Roger was an adventurous man. He liked to travel and often visited his grandkids in California, Utah, Arizona, and North Dakota. He was a very generous man and was there to lend a helping hand. He loved to go camping and attend pow-wows. He was very humorous and befriended strangers easily. He loved listening to his bluegrass music. He was a big fan of John Wayne, James Bond, and Arnold Schwarzenegger movies. He enjoyed family gatherings and visiting with company. His loud belly laugh will be greatly missed.
Roger is survived by his wife, Betty Hunts Along of Rock Point, AZ; children, Roger Young (Wendy) of Dunseith, ND, Mark Hunts Along of New Town, ND, Jennifer Hunts Along Begay (Roland) and Margaret Hunts Along, both of West Jordan, UT, and Michael Hunts Along of Gilbert, AZ; step-daughter, Winifred Begay and Sharon Begay both of Gilbert, AZ; brother, Russell Hunts Along (Cindy) of Salt Lake City, UT; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Jerry Charging, Reginald Charging, Sr., Harvey Charging, Emanuel Charging, and Kenneth Hunts Along; and sisters, Phyllis Charging, Dorothy Charging, Lena Morsette, Audrey Reed, Annie Lockwood, and Maxine Harrison.
Family and Friends Gathering: Friday, April 9, 2021 from 4-7 p.m. at Langhans Funeral Home, Parshall
Funeral with Final Reviewal: Saturday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home (family will begin gathering at 10 a.m.)
Burial: Snowbird Chapel Cemetery, rural New Town; procession will leave the funeral home around 12:15 p.m. **A boxed meal will be served.
