Catherine Barbara (who may have been known as Barbara) was born on 6 July 1841 to Christopher Disque and Anna Barbara Florenz. She was the 5th of 7 known kids, only 3 of whom survived to adulthood. Christopher & his son, Johann, immigrated to the USA on 10 June 1850 & settled in Lawrenceburg, IN. On 11 Oct 1851, they were joined by their remaining family members: mother Anna, sister Margaretha, and Catherine. Anna's sister, Elizabeth Florenz, also accompanied them. They left on the ship, Helvetia, from LeHavre, France and landed in NYC on 11 Oct 1851. During the trip, Catherine was on deck and got her foot caught in a rope. She was almost swept overboard, but was rescued just in time by some of the sailors.

On 31 July 1858, Catherine married John Adam Knipfer (known as Adam), also a German immigrant, in Dearborn County, IN. They had 10 kids for sure, and possibly another 3 who died as infants. Adam died on 28 Dec 1891.

Catherine married Adam Bauer in Larenceburg on 25 Jan 1893 and they settled on his property in/around Petersburg, Boone County, KY - right across the Ohio River from Lawrenceburg. Bauer died on 20 Feb 1901.

Catherine next married Anthony Bender in Lawrenceburg on 9 Jan 1904.
