Ruth Myrtle Thorson was born on January 25, 1926, on the family farm southwest of Wing, daughter of Theodore and Ida (Lyman) Thorson. She was raised on the farm in Lyman Township and attended rural school there. She graduated from Wing High School in 1943 and taught in rural schools at Florence Lake North of Wing, grades 5-8 of the Mine School near Wilton and Painted Woods Township School, where she met her future husband. She then attended Dickinson State College for eight weeks before she was convinced to return to teach all seven grades at a school south of McKenzie (ND).

She married Laurence Elbert Franklund on June 3, 1948 near Wing. They lived for a short time near the Yanktonai Dam in McLean County while building their farm west of Wilton on Highway 83.

Ruth was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Wilton where she served as the first female Session Member, Sunday school teacher, lesson leader for Bible study, played organ, and gave sermons when needed. She especially loved planning and putting on programs. Ruth also used her gift of teaching as a 4H leader and helping her children and grandchildren practice piano lessons. Even into her 90's she continued to serve as she sewed for mission projects and shared her faith with those around her. She loved her family and keeping up with all they were doing.

Ruth passed April 22, 2021 surrounded by the loving care of Hillsboro Care Center and family. She will be welcomed by her husband of 61 years "Lolly", brothers Elmer & Theodore Thorson, sisters-in-law, and brothers-in-law.
