Hickory. -- Funeral services for John Allison Abernethy, Sr., 59, well known educator and business man, who died Sunday, were held here Monday afternoon, with burial at Matthews where he was born on August 31, 1888. Mr. Abernethy, superintendent of a Hickory hosiery mill, was a graduate of Lenoir Rhyne College and Wake Forest Law School. He formerly practiced law in Charlotte and was a former superintendent of schools in Edgecombe County. Surviving are his wife, two sons, J. A., Jr., and H. W. Abernethy; a daughter, Mary Lipe Abernethy, all of Hickory; and a brother, Bruce Abernethy of Charlotte.
