A Eulogy from her sons Craig and Scott

"The heart of an Angel." We have all heard the term, but exactly what does it mean? Well we both think that our Mom is the very definition of this term.

Ercelle Coorough was her given name and in 1950, upon her marriage to our Dad, her legal name was changed to Ercelle Johnson. But let's face it, we all knew her as Mom, Auntie Chrissie or just simply Chris. And her life and character were just that, simple. She was unpretentious as they come and her creed in life was to be honest, to work as hard as she could, and to make a difference in many people's lives.

And make a difference she did! Here is just one example of her kind nature. In a condolence letter to us, our Mom's nephew, our cousin, Richard wrote: "Your Mom, my Aunt Chris, stands out since my earliest memories among the most amazing people I have ever known in my life. Her dauntless character, her sense of humor, her compassion and self-control, and her individual constitution were some of the things everyone who knew her had to notice.... She was so kind and generous toward so many, including me. I am so fortunate and grateful beyond words to have know your Mom."

However, her generosity went far beyond just her family. Many may not know this about our "Chris." Although living on a modest retirement income, every year she donated thousands of dollars in charitable giving. She always espoused the though that we need to take care of those less fortunate in the world. Her favorite charities focused on sick children, the US Olympic Teams, disabled veteran organizations, and various American Indian groups throughout the United States.

That said, Chris' true passion in life was her family. Everyone in her family, both immediate and extended, were the benefactors of this passion and love. She would literally give the proverbial shirt off her back to help family. She was so caring and compassionate. She always had a positive outlook and didn't dwell on the negative. She always made everyone feel good about themselves and that they were important. Yes, Family and our Dad, "Curtie Buns," as she would call him. were the most important thing; ALWAYS!

So back to that "Heart of an Angel Question." Our Mom's favorite team? The Los Angeles Angels, of course. How fitting is that! Every day since we can remember, Mom would watch her Angels play on television, in good times and bad rooting them on with all her heart. So without going on and on, these are just a few of the things that prove that Chris Johnson possessed the qualities of an Angel, and we suspect this will be her calling in Heaven.

And in the end, and this was so important to her, she will lie in her final resting place, next to Dad, for eternity, just as she wanted. We here, on this earth, will all miss her greatly!
