Sonora passed away Tuesday, July 24, 2018, in Claremore. She was 81.

Born August 4th, 1936 in Claremore, Sonora was the daughter of Leroy and Jessie Eye Hanes. She grew up in Claremore where she walked uphill to school both ways in the snow. Sonora was very proud of her Cherokee heritage and that her father was born in Indian Territory near Sageeyah in 1892.

Sonora graduated from Claremore in 1954. She worked at Gentry Drug while in school and was very proud to become one of the first telephone operators at the Southwestern Bell telephone office. Sonora married Faulkner Lessley October 22, 1970, in Claremore. They loved fishing for bass on Table Rock and Spavinaw lakes together during their twenty plus years of marriage. Sonora's life revolved around her children. She undoubtedly sacrificed a great deal to ensure they were raised well.

Sonora was preceded in death by her husband, Faulkner; her parents; her son, Dwain Gibbons; and her son-in-law, Philip Goza.

She is survived by her children: Karen Elaine Goza, Janet Lea Carman and her husband, Gary, and Orvela Gibbons; ten grandchildren: Jessica Ogle, Nick Goza, Jennifer Collins and her husband, Scott, Kimberly Smith, Brandie Hendrix, Angela Hendrix, Stephen Germany, Brooke Pritchard, Joshua Gibbons, and Joanie Gibbons; her brother, Nathan Meloy Hanes, her sister-in-law, Rosemary Hanes; and eleven great-grandchildren.
