Born in Suffolk, VA, on March 12, 1945 to Elliott "Joe"(d) and Florine Joyner (d), Buddy lived in Suffolk for many years before moving to Waynesboro, VA, at age 72.
He retired from a career at International Paper as the Power Plant Manager. Buddy attended Westminster Presbyterian Church for several decades, serving as an elder, missions committee leader, and Sunday school teacher and most recently was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Harrisonburg, VA. His love for sharing the gospel with others took him around the world, doing missions work in Ukraine, Senegal, Mexico, India, Peru, and Chile. Helping and discipling others was a way of life for Buddy, who lead countless Bible studies and mentored many. Farming and raising beef cattle on his farm in Waynesboro with his family was a dream fulfilled for him. He ran the race well and was a good and faithful servant.
Buddy is survived by his wife, Linda, three daughters: Kelley Phillips (Mike Phillips), Susanne Derrick (Steven Derrick), and Emily Babish (Dan Babish), and nine grandchildren: Aaron, Bethany, Jacob and Nathan Phillips, Annie and Jed Derrick, and Georgia, Lane, and Elise Babish, siblings Joanne (Eddie)Willis, David (Lela) Joyner, Judy (Tom) Griffin, Edward (Mary) Joyner, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Mission to the World (www.mtw.org) are suggested.
