PARK HILL -- Services for James R. Brown will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 29, at First Southern Baptist Church of Keys with Dr. Andy Bowman officiating. Interment will follow services at Fort Gibson National Cemetery in Fort Gibson. Services have been entrusted to Hart Funeral Home.
James R. Brown was born in Fort Wingate, N.M., on June 10, 1938, the son of Lonnie Brown and Lydia (Cowart) Brown. He graduated from high school in Gallup, N.M., and then served his country as a radar and electronics specialist in the U.S. Navy from 1955 to 1959. After completing his service, Jimmy returned to the Gallup area, where he worked as a machinist in the oil and natural gas industry. On Oct. 24, 1964, he wed Darnetta Jo Johnson, starting a marriage that remained vibrant until the day of his passing. Together, he and Darnetta had four children. After his retirement in 1995, they moved to the Park Hill area.
Jimmy was an active member of First Southern Baptist Church of Keys. He enjoyed crafts, reading and spending time with his friends at the senior citizens centers. He was very creative, and was famous among his family and friends for being able to fix almost anything. Jimmy was a friend to all who met him. He loved his family deeply, and his faith in God was immense. He wanted everyone to know that he never gave up because God held him up.
Jimmy passed from this life on Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2007, with his beloved Darnetta by his side. He was 69.
He was preceded in death by his parents; by his sisters Louise, Lila, Betty and Pat; and by his son Charles Daniel Brown in 1984.
Keeping Jimmy alive in their memories are his survivors: his wife Darnetta of the home; his son James Robert Brown Jr. of Farmington, N.M., son Lindell Brown of Benson, Ariz., and daughter Joetta Cox and husband Thomas of Sand Springs; his sister Linda Horn and husband Jim of Tucson, Ariz., sister Carol Brown of Tucson, Ariz., and brother Lonnie Brown and wife Toni of Merced, Calif; his grandchildren, Mandy Cox, Jamie Cox, Jeremy Brown and Jessica Brown; his great-grandchildren, Braden Coker, Reagan Coker, and Kayla Cox; many nieces, nephews, cousins and family members; and a host of friends and loved ones.
