Mrs. Dana P. Foster Claimed by Death
This entire community was deeply grieved when the sad news spread at a late hour Saturday night of the death of Mrs. Dana P. Foster, age 57, wife of Sam P. Foster and a resident of Merkel and Taylor county most of her life. Her death, although not unexpected, as she had suffered an attack of paralysis about a month ago from which she did not recover, brought sorrow to many hearts and the bereaved father and son lacked not for friends and consolation in their hour of separation and grief.
Mrs. Foster died at 9 o'clock Saturday night and funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the First Baptist church with Rev. J. T. King, pastor, officiating. Internment was in Rose Hill cemetery.
Pallbearers were Tyre Sublett, S. M. Hunter, Chester Hutcheson, Joe Garland, B. E. Dalton and Ed Turner.
Mrs. Foster was born in Tennessee and came to Taylor county with her parents in 1883. Since that time, covering a period of 48 years, she had lived in or near Merkel and her life had been closely associated with the activities and distress, the blessings and the sorrows of this section. By her many splendid traits of character and fine womanhood she acquired a large circle of friends, whom she was always ready to assist and relieve, to cheer and console, as they journeyed along life's way, and these friends were her comfort in her last days.
She had been a member of the Baptist church here for many years, this being the only church to which she had belonged.
Besides her husband, one son, Clyde, and a grandson, J. C. Foster, she is survived by five brothers, John Phillips, Graham; George Phillips, Eastland; Bob Phillips, Phoenix, Ariz. and two sisters, Mrs. Amanda Sporer, Eastland and Mrs. Lulu Powell, Austin. All except the sister in Austin and the brother in Phoenix came to attend the funeral.

This was taken verbatim from the above mentioned newspaper from the online collection of newspapers which are a part of the Southwest Collection housed at Texas Tech University, Lubbock, Texas. The above mentioned "five brothers", I believe was supposed to be five siblings as there were only three brothers mentioned followed by two sisters. Transcribed by Terry Jenkins on 2 May 2021.
