Macaulay. — At her daughter's residence,
Benalla, on 30th June, 1910, Janet,
relict of the late Hector Macaulay,
formerly of Beechworth, aged 85
years.

Death of an Old Resident. —The list
of old colonists resident in this district
who have passed away has been added to
by the death of Mrs. Hector Macaulay on
Thursday, at theresidence of her daughter,
Mrs. McPherson, at Benalla. The de
ceased lady, who had attained the ad
vanced age of 85 years, was a native of
Elgin, Scotland, where she was married.
The couple first proceeded to America,
and afterwards to Australia, arriving in
Victoria in the early fifties. They resided
for a short time at Emerald Hill (now
South Melbourne), removing to this
district in 1856, and kept the Bluebell
Hotel, near Myrtleford, then a thriving
locality. Subsequently Mr. Macaulay
took up land on the Buffalo River, and
engaged in farming, residing there for
over 40 years, the farm .being still carried
on by some of the sons. She was of a
very strong constitution, and enjoyed
good health, which failed about twelve
months since, when she went to reside
with her daughter at Benalla, where she
died as stated, death being due to senile
decay. Her husband predeceased her by
some years, and she leaves a family of
four sons and three daughters, all of
whom are married. The funeral is
appointed to take place at the Beech
worth Cemetery this (Saturday) after
noon, immediately after the arrival of
the train, the officiating minister being
the Rev. F. Nichol, of the Independent
Church. The funeral arrangements will
be carried out by Mr. W. J. Edwards,
undertaker.
