Eugene H. Garling 48, of 1120 W. Elm St. practicing attorney since 1939, died at 9:10 a.m. today in St. Rita's Hospital, where he was admitted Aug 12.
Born in Lima, May 25, 1913, Mr. Garling was graduated from Lima Central High School, Wittenberg College and Ohio Northern University Law School.
He practiced law with his father, the late H. Edward Garling, one time judge of the 3rd. District Court of appeals, in the firm of Garling, Kuhn, Marsh and Garling.
Later he was associated with T.B. Steele and about four years ago began his won practice, maintaining offices in his home. Except for serving 27 months in a branch of the medical corps in the Armed Forces during World War II, Mr. Garling was assistant city solicitor from 1942 to 1949.He had served as acting judge of municipal Court and in 1957 was a candidate for judge of Municipal Court.
He was a member of the Allen County Bar Association and the Loyal Order of Moose.
Surviving are his widow, Margaret; five children, William, James, Kathryn, Betsy and Mary, all of the home; his mother, Mrs. H. Edward Garling, 1120 W. Elm St.; two uncles. Orla Garling, Fort Wayne Ind., and Lawrence Garling, Minster, and an aunt, Mrs. Guy Rex, DeGraff.
Services will be at 10:a.m. Thursday, with burial in Gethsemani Cemetery. Friends may call after 7 p.m. today at Siferd Westwood Chapel
