He had organized a bus trip from Bloomsburg to D.C., and having had collapsed at 1 p.m. that day, was not a part of the violence that later occurred there.
Born in Pottsville in 1970 and raised in Middleport, he was the only child of James and Victoria Philips, of the Ringtown area.
A 1988 graduate of Saint Clair High School, he also was a graduate of Temple University, with a degree in computer science.
He was a freelance computer programmer, web developer and consultant for many businesses over his career.
A very generous man, son and father, he adored his daughters and spent as much time as possible with them and his parents.
A lover of all kinds of animals, he would feed the deer and other wildlife at his parents home daily.
He was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents, James and Virginia Philips, John and Victoria Bogish; uncles, Glenn Philips, John Bogish Jr., Joseph Stefan and Charles Shellhammer; and aunt, Dorothy Bogish.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by daughters, Taylor and Morgan Philips, of Schuylkill Haven; aunts, Barbara Shellhammer, Elaine Bogish and Rita Philips; uncles, Michael Bogish and Paul Philips; and several cousins.
He is survived also by his longtime companion, Sandra Demarkis, of Saint Clair.
He is sadly missed by his family, companion and friends.
Remembrances of Ben can be made by making donations to the Hillside Animal Shelter of Pottsville. Arrangements were entrusted to the Stauffer-Breznik Funeral Home in Ringtown. There are no services planned at this time.
