PLEASANT PLAINS – Harold P. Ferry, 92, of Pleasant Plains died at 11:45 p.m. Sunday, June 10, 2007, at Villa Health Care East in Sherman.

He was born May 26, 1915, in Pleasant Plains, the son of George and Mary Smith Ferry. He married Eula Mae "Micky" McGuire; she died July 12, 2004.

Mr. Ferry graduated from Pleasant Plains High School in 1932 and Illinois State University in 1937, with a bachelor's degree in education. He taught junior high in Watseka and coached baseball there. He worked for Seismograph Service Corp. in Mexico and returned to Pleasant Plains, where he farmed until his retirement. He was founder of the Pleasant Plains Athletic Association. He also was a member of the Pleasant Plains School Board for nine years and served as president in the later years.

Surviving are two sons, Jack (Karen) Ferry of Pleasant Plains and Bruce (Sue) Ferry of Vashon, Wash.; daughter, Janet (Brian) Campbell of Rochester; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and sister, Frances Walbaum of Pleasant Plains.

Following cremation in Springfield, graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 14, 2007, in Pleasant Plains Cemetery, with the Rev. Duane Turley officiating.

Ellinger-Kunz Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the Pleasant Plains Rescue Squad.
