BIO by Dessau7, loving Daughter of Carleton Richard Fisher.

Carleton Richard Fisher, age 84, of Decatur, Georgia, formerly of Treasure Island, Florida, died early Christmas morning, December 25, 2006, at Visiting Nurse Hospice, Atlanta, Georgia. He passed into the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Carleton was Christened and Baptized in the Methodist Church and was a life-long devoted attendee and practitioner of the Methodist faith.

For two years, Mr. Fisher fought a courageous battle with Non-small Cell Lung Cancer and Type II Diabetes.

Mr. Fisher is survived by his beloved wife of more than 60 years, Laura R. Fisher; daughters, Lora Leigh Fisher and Donna (Fisher) Cummins (Bill) of Decatur, Georgia; granddaughter, Stephanie Anne Smith of Chicago, Illinois; and by sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Mr. Fisher was a United States WWII Veteran. After honorably serving his country as a US Coast Guardsman during WWII aboard the USS Sheboygan, Mr. Fisher utilized his meticulous eye for detail, an insatiable curiosity of all things technical, and an admirable sense of work ethics as a watchmaker and as a craftsman/model maker of scientific instrumentation. He served as Supervisor of the Applied Research, Development and Engineering Departments' Model Shop for Hays Corporation in Michigan City, Indiana, and Milton Roy Company in St. Petersburg, Florida.

Mr. Fisher was extremely creative; capable of fabricating highly technical models or prototypes after conceptual discussions with scientists and engineers and often without the aid of drawings or from simple thumbnail sketches. A member of the Methodist Church in Michigan City, IN, and Pasadena Community Church in St. Petersburg, Florida, he was a 32nd Degree Mason, a Disabled American Veteran, and volunteered as a Junior Achievement corporate sponsor.

In retirement, Mr. Fisher transferred his creative, critical-thinking and problem-solving skills by exploring stained glass window-making, crafts, learning to play the organ, reading, and boating. Though basically a quiet man, he was a friend to all and a stranger to none. Mr. Fisher was, above all, deeply passionate in his love for his wife and completely committed to his family.

A Memorial Service will be held from 1:30-2:30 pm on Wednesday, January 3, 2007, at the old, stone Chapel of the Decatur First United Methodist Church at 312 Sycamore Street in Decatur, Georgia.

Friends and family attending the service at the chapel should park behind the sanctuary in the parking lot of the Decatur First United Methodist Church on Commerce Drive and walk across Ponce de Leon (approximately one block) to the chapel. Parking is not available at the chapel.

Officiating at the service will be Rev. Frank Brock of the Decatur First United Methodist Church and Mr. Fisher's nephew, the Rev. Dr. Gene Richards, Pastor of Hillside Baptist Church in Franklinton, Louisiana.

A reception celebrating the life of Carleton Fisher will be held in the Club Room at Towne Square Condominiums following the Memorial Service. Contributions may be made to Hospice Atlanta, Decatur First United Methodist Church, the American Lung Association, or the Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University.

Cremation Services were provided by Wages and Sons Funerals and Crematories in Stone Mountain, Georgia. 770-469-9811.
