Mrs. Emeretta Amanda Kelsey, 83, widow of Orin Kelsey and long time resident of New Harmony, Washington county, died Friday afternoon at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Grant Hale, 127 Lury avenue of ailments incident to age. She had been seriously ill one week.
Mrs. Kelsey was born in Salt Lake City, December 23, 1857, a daughter of Alma T. and Charlotte Buys Angell. She had lived for many years at New Harmony. Her husband operated the old Kelsey stage stationat Black Ridge in Washington county for many years. He also was a captain in the first company sent into San Juan county early day Indian troubles there.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Eliza Cox, Fairview; and Mrs. Hale of Salt Lake City, an adopted son, Alvin Kelsey of Cedar City; a sister, Mrs. Helen Allred of Los Angeles; 25 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p. m. Sunday at New Harmony. The funeral cortege is scheduled to reach there at 11 a. m. and friends may call at the James E. Taylor residence prior to services. Burial will be in the New Harmony cemetery, directed by the George M. Archer mortuary of Park City.
